The biggest GS Defender update yet: welcome, organize, and protect your Discord server from one bot

We’ve just shipped the biggest update to GS Defender since launch: four new capabilities that change what the bot does for your community. Not just catching bad actors, but helping you welcome, organize, and run your server day to day.

First: what is GS Defender?
GS Defender is our trust and safety bot for Discord communities. It runs in more than 52,000 servers and protects over 10 million members, handling the security work that's hard to do manually: identity verification at the door, raid and nuke protection, ban evasion detection, and a full moderation suite with audit logs so your team can see exactly what happened and when.
It was built for communities where safety actually matters: game studios running official servers, esports orgs that need verified identities for competitive integrity, brands that can't afford a compromised community, and creators protecting their fans.
That's the foundation. But if we're honest, most of what GS Defender did until now was invisible when things went well. It was the bouncer: essential, but not something your members ever thanked you for. This update changes that.
From back-of-house to front-of-house
The pattern we kept hearing from server admins: you trust GS Defender for enforcement, but you're still duct-taping two or three other bots together for welcome flows, role management, and announcements. Every extra bot is another permission set to audit, another point of failure, and another thing that doesn't talk to your security layer.
So we built the front-of-house tools into the bot you already trust with the keys. Four new capabilities, one bot, and they're aware of each other in ways separate bots can't be. Here's what's new.
Messages: interactive messages your members can actually use
Build custom message templates, as embeds or components, with buttons and dropdowns that trigger real actions: send, edit, or delete a message, open a form, or add and remove roles.
The form piece is particularly exciting to help keep data organized. Say you run a partner program for streamers. Instead of directing applicants to an external form, you can post a message with an “Apply” button that opens a form right inside Discord: channel links, follower count, screenshots, whatever you need. Submissions land with your team, and nobody left the server to make it happen.
Auto Message: the welcome mat that never sleeps
Templated welcome, leave, and boost messages, delivered in a channel or by DM, plus recurring “sticky” messages for the announcements you're tired of re-posting: event reminders, rules refreshers, support links.
Small feature, big compounding effect. A member's first thirty seconds in your server sets the tone for everything after, and now that moment is designed instead of accidental.
Alt Detector: know who's walking in
Every new joiner is scored on multiple suspicion signals: account age, default avatar, missing badges, suspicious username patterns, and more. Scores map to tiers, and you decide what happens at each tier: ban, kick, timeout, or force verification through GamerSafer.
This is where the front-of-house and back-of-house sides meet. Your welcome flow greets the humans; Alt Detector quietly routes the accounts that seem suspicious into verification before they can touch your community. Most members will never see it working. That's the point.
Auto Role: roles that assign themselves
Assign roles automatically based on how someone arrived: including by invite link. Running an alpha test? Members who join through your alpha invite get the alpha role instantly, no manual assignment, no “hey can someone give me access” messages. Join and onboarding roles are covered too, and sticky roles restore automatically when a member rejoins.
For anyone running campaigns, playtests, or tiered communities, this quietly kills one of the most tedious mod jobs there is.
One bot, every layer
Each of these features exists in some standalone bot. What you couldn't get before is all of them sharing one brain with your security layer: the same bot that verifies identities at the door now runs your welcome flow, and the same system that detects ban evasion now handles your role assignments. Fewer bots, fewer permissions to audit, and layers of protection that actually talk to each other.
